REPORTS: Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chis Henry is broke. Like, flat broke. Like, needs taxpayer help for his legal affairs broke.
I actually feel bad for the guy. True, it's his own fault he is in this mess, but still -- I have to think that if he'd had the proper advice he wouldn't have screwed up on the financial side of things.
Posted by Benjamin Kepple at July 14, 2008 10:38 AM | TrackBackI checked his salary and he only actually made $1.5 million over the three years when he was with the Bengals, and that is before taxes. So he really didn't squander a huge fortune.
Posted by: Jesse at July 15, 2008 05:04 PMYou left out the signing bonus. But even if he had only made $1.5m, he shouldn't need legal aid. That's kinda pathetic.
P.S. The Browns will not defeat Pittsburgh this year.
Posted by: Benjamin Kepple at July 15, 2008 06:56 PMAh, you are right, I accidentally left part of the bonus out. You are right. $2.5 million (before tax). Still not as much as some people might think though. The sad part is this:
"Henry's home has been foreclosed on and his car has been repossessed, and he's unlikely to find work again in the NFL. I would like to think that most people who threw away $2.5 million by their 25th birthdays would learn a lesson about living responsibly, but most people are not Chris Henry."
I had assumed he had some assets left. Sounds like really blew it all.
Posted by: Jesse at July 15, 2008 10:56 PMYeah, it's not good.
Hey, wait a minute. You didn't take the bait.
Uh oh.
